scotland’s cindytalk attempt difficult pathways. arcane footsteps that lead to both the ring of brodgar and the exploration of long evacuated space stations. abstracted electronics that feel at once alien and yet strangely familiar. dangerous yet never malevolent - a rich sonic poetry of decay. into the 21st century and cindytalk are many things all at the same time, shapeshifters supreme. in tandem with this is the abstract electronic compositions, beautifully worked, on a series of editions mego album releases from 2009 until 2019. formed in edinburgh in 1982, from the ashes of local punk group the freeze, cindytalk almost immediately relocated to london, instantly broadening it’s horizons. whilst cinder has been cindytalk’s sole constant member since the beginning, a series of band albums from camouflage heart (1984) to wappinschaw (1995) saw the group develop an often uncompromisingly dark, intense and poetic body of work, with cinder’s vocals complemented by music which moved between industrial, post-punk, ambient and fully improvised, while directly connecting across disciplines to performance, film and other media. dais records (usa) are currently reissuing those albums in 2022-25. cinder, has steered this unique collective through a multitude of changes and collaborations over the years ( this mortal coil, somatic responses, becoming /// animal & in the mouth of the wolf with berlins' ancient methods ) seeing festival bookings all across the world… tectonics festival glasgow, summer happenings at the broad museum los angeles, unsound krakow, meltdown london as well as standalone shows in tokyo, osaka, shanghai, napoli, cork, prague & berlin to name but a few. uk based label false walls issued cindytalks' subterminal in 2022, whilst los angeles' line - sound art editions - issued when the moon is a thread in 2023.
