SARDH (D)

Rooted in the Eastern German underground, Sardh is a collective of audio-visual experimental artists. The project was founded in 1987 as a fusion of painters and designers working on the Dresden improvisation scene. The sonic identity of Sardh relies on self-made instruments or everyday utensils as sound sources. Its output is a mixture of sound collages, ambient, noise and industrial music. What makes the group different from the genre’s many other projects is the almost complete lack of pre-programmed electronic sounds and samples. The members' main principle is emphasis on producing sound directly in front of the audience and thus mentally engaging it in the very process of creation. Each of their live performances is different, being strictly defined by the venue and the atmosphere of the moment, which enables delivery of a unique dramatic structure of music coming into being impromptu as an expression of the creative process.
